This like the Vardon Cup was modeled after a racing cup. This trophy had a date of 1902. In 1902 Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States; a Republican with the nickname of "TR", "Trust-Buster" or better known as "Teddy".
The British Open Champion in 1902 was Alexander Herd at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. The U.S. Open Champion was Laurie Auchterlonie at Garden City Golf Club.
The perpetual can be purchased with a top or without one. The award pieces do not have a top. Atop the top of the perpetual is an animal head, available in a bear, eagle, moose, buffalo, elk, or deer. Teddy Roosevelt was a hunter and first President to visit Yellowstone. This cup is a fitting tribute to those times.
